The full episode dropped this week, but this moment was too good to leave on the cutting room floor.
In this bonus cut, Tim goes a little deeper on what it really means to lead with a people-first mindset when the stakes are high and the work is personal. It's the kind of insight you don't get from a job description or a leadership book. It comes from the field, the boardroom, and the lived experience of someone who has been knocked down and gotten back up more than once.
Short clip. Big takeaway.

[00:00:13] Do you have this clothing brand? Yes. What is it called? So the brand is called Deuce Sleeves. Okay. D-E-U-C-E, Deuce Sleeves, because I have two sleeves, tattoos. Ironically, the right sleeve was when I was in active addiction and my left sleeve tells the story about active recovery. And I was just for fun creating, you know, what would be a cool logo. And I happened to have a hummingbird on my elbow that
[00:00:43] I said to my graphic designer, Hey, take this hummingbird. And I have a really big heart for the military and the veteran community, especially the World War II, a little bit of a World War II junkie. And I gave him some of the symbols within the military and gave him the hummingbird. And he came back with this logo that was perfect. And I ended up put it on a hat, had embroidered on a hat and just started wearing it. And before you know it, people are asking, Hey, I love the hat. What's the symbol? What does it mean?
[00:01:13] And it, you know, my craft was tailored over time, but the hummingbird symbolizes strength and persistence to rise above trouble and hardship. And I use it as a, as a vehicle to share my testimony of addiction in faith and how I was able to gain sorority. So I do it on the side and the clothing brand is on the side. It's kind of unofficial when I'm not working 10 hour days.
[00:01:36] Um, but it's really not about the money or the brand as much as it is a vehicle to share that testimony. And the goal with it is not just for people in recovery, but you could be facing any kind of difficulty, whether it's health condition, you know, divorce, any adversity that you're, that you're dealing with is that I want to share the message and inspire you that you can get through it. Don't give up. Don't lose faith. And you can make that journey.
[00:02:04] Okay. So let me now have to recap. Yes. Okay. Almost dentist. Right. Football player. Yes. Football player. Right. To sales. Yes. Sales to training and development, training and development, training and development to CHRO. Correct. Plus clothing connoisseur. Right. Yes. And a good selection of Jordans. That's right. Okay. All right. Perfect. Listen, y'all, I'm going to just say this again.
[00:02:32] I think there's something about the duplicity or the complexity that a person can have beyond just the work. That's right. And back in the day, I think so many people felt like they had to be one thing. Right. There's a book called. Yep. The One Thing. Right. Love the book. But you can be more than just one thing.
[00:02:53] And I think the totality of all of those things is what makes us unique, is what elevates our service offering, is what kind of makes what we bring to the table interesting for the organization. Absolutely. I play piano. Nice. Organ, drums. Right. Right. I played for churches during, well, elementary, middle school, high school. Right. Played at basic training. Wow.
[00:03:22] Yes. Wow. At chapel service. Wow. That's amazing. I don't think I would have made it through basic training had I not been playing. But so played for that. At one point in time, I was making more with gigs than I was in my day job. Yeah. Right. Because of that, I got to meet other musicians. I got to do crazy fun things. But I learned how to work in concert. Right. So some of the same things that you learn on the football field. Right.
[00:03:51] We learn behind the instrument. That's right. Who's taking the lead on this? Right. Or whose turn is it to lead? Right. And what does it mean to be a good background musician? Or have good background vocals? Right. Which actually helps you be a better leader later. I think so. So I love, we'll have to unpack this. It's about giving back. Yeah. It's about giving back in the mission. If you love what you do and you're passionate about what you do, it doesn't really cost time.
[00:04:20] And it's just, it's a passion and it makes all of us unique. And I love that you share your story. Yes. About who you are. Same to you. All right. Well, that concludes our, I guess, 15 minutes with Encore. We'll just label it that. Awesome. See y'all.
